Alcatraz Wins Summer Vacation Photo Contest

Patch reader Brieana Savard, of Newtown, wins our "What I did on my Summer Vacation" photo contest.

Patch readers in Bucks and Montgomery picked a photo by Brieana Savard as the best photo in our What I did on my Summer Vacation photo contest.

The picture shows the Golden Gate Bridge from Alcatraz Island in San Francisco.

"It was a 17-day long vacation where we took a train to Washington, then another train to Chicago, and one last train to San Francisco," said Brieana. "I went with my boyfriend and his family. ... We had a sleeping car for the overnight rides so we slept right in there and had meals on the train and everything. From there we rented a car and visited San Francisco, Yosemite, Hollywood, Disneyland, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, and Monument Valley!"

The family stayed a couple nights at each location and visited the sights: Alcatraz, Japanese Tea Garden, Golden Gate Bridge, Kodak Theatre, Hollywood sign and more.

"This photo was taken from Alcatraz Island after our audio tour," she said.

As the winner, Brieana wins a $50 gift card and a Back-to-School prize package that includes a backpack, notebooks, pens, sunglasses and more. Congratulations!

The 10 finalists brought in about 100 votes, and Brieana's picture got nearly 40 percent of that total. The runners up, at 17 percent each, are Jackie, with a photo of Niagra Falls and a photo by Michelle Hazlett of "beach bums Jimmy and Sean."
