Parks & Rec Proposes Playground for Veterans' Field
Members of the Upper Southampton Parks and Recreation Board will present its proposal for a new playground at Veterans' Field to township supervisors Tuesday evening.
A new playground could be soon be in place at Veterans' Field.
The Upper Southampton Park and Recreation Board has been busy hammering out the details of the playground for months, and now the last step is to seek the approval of the township's board of supervisors.
"We have to have any large purchase approved by the board," said Park and Recreation Board Chairperson Pat Myers. "They have to approve the bill."
If all goes according to plan, the playground will be placed to the left of the new concession stand/restroom/storage building at the field, between the building and the parking lot.
The playground will feature two sets of swings, a suspension bridge and multiple sets of steps, slides and tubes.
"It's a little bigger than the playground at Tamanend Park, and it has more slides," said Myers.
The materials for the playground will be provided by Miracle Recreation Equipment Company, for nearly $34,000, and Buzz Burger, Inc. will install the playground equipment for approximately $13,000. The total cost of the playground is projected to be just under $47,000.
The playground proposal is listed as a topic of discussion on the agenda for tonight's board of supervisors meeting.
The meeting will take place in the township meeting room, located in the basement of the Southampton Free Library, at 7:30 p.m.

As a resident in Southampton it would be very nice to see a playground. The field looks great though. I drive by it all the time when going to work.

I think it is a very good idea. Younger siblings of children using the fields would have something to do if they did not want to watch the soccer games.

Since such a few number of children in the township will get to use the soccer fields, I think and even fewer amount would get to use the playground. An awful lot of money being put out for fields that are not open to everyone to play on.
