Patch, please don't stir up controversy.
The school is gorgeous. The kids are excited. No, the playground on a plateau out back is not ideal, but the principal and vice-principal (whom I just met recently) truly seem to have the kids' best interests at heart. There will be a great many playground monitors, all of whom I bet have a cell phone and could call the front office in a heartbeat if there were an issue.
There is nothing to be done about it now, so let's make the best of it.

I have kids going to this school too. You people don't get it. The board didn't care about having a playground. Board and contractors didn't think it through. No one asked anyone how the playground process works or how the kids would get there or what do they do at recess or how long of a time they have. Stackpole had a small hill which kids ran up and ran and rolled down and many kids were hurt through the years and yes Mr/Ms. Positive there were windows in the back of stackpole. Do you know it took 2 teachers to walk from a classroom to the top of hill more than 6 minutes one way. That's adults so how long will it take over 100 hundred kids at a time in a fashionly manner to go through the hallways and stairs to outside and have recess and back with over 12 minutes to travel and they only get 30 minute recess. So when the drawings were processed and approved for the school who was thinking????????????? Disgrace and a waiste of monies

I'm not trying to stir things up, but it just doesn't seem safe.
My kid, who went through Davis, can't tell you the number of times a child got hurt during recess and the nurse had to come out with a wheelchair to get him/her. I can't imagine the nurse or recess aides, some of whom are not young, getting up and down that hill in a hurry. What about pregnant staff?
Someone is going to trip down those steps and get hurt. Then they will have to haul the dirt away.

How about we all live in our own little bubbles and then there will never be any accident or steps to walk up!
Oh my, what in the world did we do so many years ago......
As it was stated EVERYONE now has cell phones. There are plenty of teachers and aides to take care of the kids. Kids don't ever fall when they are not in school???? When they are out playing Football, Soccer, baseball...... They are steps!!!! It is called exercise! It is what the kids need. The ages of these children are old enough to know how to walk up and down steps!
It is a beautiful school with a beautiful grounds.
Should each room have a playground built in so that the kids get the best use out of their time??? Please wake up and look at the reason for recess! It is just to break up the day and get the kids MOVING!!!! You should be happy they even have a playground!

Hey, do you know where WE played during recess and lunch? In the school PARKING LOT! Yeah, asphalt. We fell down sometimes, we skinned our knees, even banged out heads and guess what. WE'RE OK! (we even learned the proper spelling of "WASTE of monies"). It's ok people, the children will be just fine. My son being one of them in kindergarten. They'll be OK.

Do you know how disappointed these kids will be because they have no flat surface to play soccer? Talk about exercise. Each grade would ask if it was their turn to have the soccer field at stackpole. Now they have 44 steps to the top of a hill. Come on people it's not about having a playground or doing steps. It's the principal of how the process began at this school and how the higher ups didn't think through. They just did as they pleased.

Why are you so negative? I've read three articles now, and all you do is complain.
If you know how to cram all those kids on that site without screwing up the basements of the houses behind the school (which are probably 50' above the school's parking lot?), feel free to enlighten us. Don't forget to include your qualifications (i.e. carpenter's license, engineer's degree, etc. And don't just say your a parent, engineer's and carpenters have kids too).
It took a couple years to design that school and build it. I seriously doubt "they just did as they pleased." The hill has always been there, its just a little steeper now so your kid can go to school there.

Go take a picture of all the stagment water that has been sitting back there and Kids and monitors have to go in and get balls that fall into the water. Disgrace. Who approved the drainage of the project. Water everywhere all around the building. West nile virus hitting big and Mosquitos are loving all this water. Not good for anyone. DISGRACE No room to even place a basketball net for these children
