Police Make Prostitution Busts at Two Southampton Spas
Upper Southampton Police filed charges against several women after the Natural Health Spa on Street Road and a second spa-type business that provided services under multiple names were subject to an undercover investigation.
Warning: The following story contains graphic descriptions of sexual acts.
Several women who work at two separate spas within Upper Southampton Township have been charged with prostitution.
According to documents filed in the investigation, after answering adds on sites like Craigslist.com and BackDoor.com, undercover agents were not only given massages from workers at the spas but also given the option to upgrade to explicit sex acts for additional cash.
Upper Southampton Chief of Police Ron MacPherson said late last year the department starting gathering intelligence on all of the licensed spas in the township.
MacPherson said the charges filed Thursday stem from raids police conducted last week on two businesses, both located on Street Road.
A spa that has used the names Selena European Day Spa as well as East – West Wellness Center, located at 1018 Street Road, Suite 101 was raided after police say two separate masseuses on two different dates solicited an undercover agent to exchange sex for money.
Workers Ludmila Kim, 36, of Philadelphia, and Evelyn Arreaga-Basantes, 31, of Bayone, NJ were each charged by summons on Thursday with one count of Prostitution.
According to the criminal complaint, Kim, who used the name “Mila,” was in the midst of a massage for an undercover agent when she began touching his genitals and offered to “disrobe and provide oral sex for a $160 tip.”
According to the criminal complaint filed against Arreaga-Basantes, she was using the name “Savannah” when massaging an undercover officer earlier this month. The officer alleges that during the massage, Arreaga-Basantes began stroking his genitals while detailing a price list for extra services.
The complaint says she told the officer “for $100 she would provide a hand job, for $140 she would get naked and provide a blow job and for $200 [he] could have sex with her.”
Additionally, two women who work at the Natural Health Spa, located at 1776 Street Road, were implicated in the bust.
MacPherson said this is not the first time the Natural Health Spa was the subject of a prostitution sting, citing an investigation back in 2009 that resulted in several arrests.
Following the recent raid, Xu Junhua, 41, of Queens, NY and Kyoung Croswell, 50, of Philadelphia, were each charged with one count of prostitution.
The complaint filed against Junhua alleges she offered a “happy ending” to a undercover officer that she was massaging. The complaint said that when the officer asked what she meant by happy ending, Junhua replied “everything” and then removed all of her clothing.
Police said Croswell, going by the name “Chanel,” offered to give an undercover officer oral sex in exchange for $80.
MacPherson said Croswell was wanted for failure to appear on a prostitution charge from last year. He said she was turned over to the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department.
“Let these arrests send a message that this type of illegal activity or patrons who support these types of businesses won’t be tolerated in Upper Southampton Township,” said MacPherson.
“There are many licensed legitimate spas in our township who offer hair, nail, tanning, or physical therapy massages and we welcome customers to patronize those businesses,” he added.
