If these guns were in fact inherited by the Mother, its no "crime" to have them anywhere within your home, so I'm not getting how she's being charged with anything that will "stick". The law does not (and should not) specify where and how firearms shall be stored in a private citizens home. Its legal, private property, in a private home.

That being said, a RESPONSIBLE parent would not allow them to be unsecured in a childs room. ilegal? No. Stupid and irresponsible? YES!

The issue of gun ownership has reached a point where it goes way beyond individual liberties. The prevalence of guns in this country now threatens the individual liberties of every citizen in this country. When our children are not safe in their schools, we are no longer free. And putting armed guards in every school, as the NRA would like to do, is definitely not the answer. FEWER GUNS, NOT MORE!

Its up to parents to teach morals and respect. But then again if you don't respect your kids enough to teach the right from wrong and how to be happy, how are they supposed to respect themselves and be happy?

I went to walmart in bristol today and in the clearanxe isle along with severL areas of the store were air soft assult riffles. They looked loke the real thing! They had paint ball guns where someone could go and do something dumb in the store with it. Im starting to thinlk all these so called weapons were aced there to make sure kids can get their hands on them. To he gun freaks in richboro: you didnt get to take the guns to the school thats why there were no found on a searcch! Unless you his them im the woods nearby. Teenagers are not dumb cauee they actually are smarter then adults these days. So stop saying they dont realize what they are doing thats just old school thinking not reality of the world. Don't judge till you know all the facts. It's scary not feeling safe I think the police and school acted accordingly but hope that justice is served not just a political agenda.

Agreed fewer guns. Guns are not the only issue with these threats. Mental illness and bullying was a factor. Teachers and parents have to indentify these kids that are being bullied and get them the support they need. There should be something in place after they turn 18.

I'm failing to see a "spin" here. The kid had guns in his nightstand drawer and was making threats in school. The mom was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, as well as a house full of guns. The facts are the facts.

Agreed @MR! We don't know that there was bullying and mental illness involved. The facts ARE the facts. Stop placing the blame elsewhere.

We still do not know what specific threats were made by the boy. 99%+ of all homes have some drugs, when you include all barbiturates and alcohol, so don't necessarily point the finger there. Let's wait to see what the police have to say and more specifically what the indictment says.

@iz53 The purpose of guns is not to kill, as you stated. If you would like to be more precise in your language, then state your objection to assault weapons, armor piercing bullets and the like. I happen to own guns, which I use for hunting, target practice and for protection, and I think there needs to be some modification of what is available to the public. The NRA, of which I am a member, feels that any inch given up in the suppression of the 2nd amendment is an encroachment on that liberty, and I happen to disagree with that stance.
There are lots of things that led to this situation and we do not have all of the information yet, but it is agreed that the child should not have had access to weapons which were not suitably stored. Stay easy iz.

You need to keep tabs on your child. What they are saying or doing, where they are going and who their friends are. It worries me that this kid and his family with loads of weapons live in my neighborhood. Who is responsible for this kids actions!,The parents that were arrested with the kid. Lead by example, people. If you act like a jackass I'm pretty sure your kid will too. You also need to ask other parents if there are guns in their homes. You never know when a kid will show off and the gun will go off. If your kid starts acting withdrawn, strange, hiding in their room, not hanging with anyone and says scary shit. Get some help! before it is too late. Parents you need to spend time with kids, show them love, lead them in the right direction. Unless of course you are a jackass then by all means express your second amendment rights, give your kid a gun, paint the room black and let them go at it at the gun range. That is quite an example. I haven't read that the boy had ammunition or a plan. Perhaps he did, or maybe he is a dumb 14 year old who didn't know how big a deal this would be now. Mr Klein referred to him as "evil." I find that chilling. To all those parents who haven't had any trouble raising a teenaged son, congrats. I hope this boy, who is guilty in fact of being a big mouth immature boy at this point, gets help he needs to grow up.

I agree that it's very likely this child did not realize what he was getting himself into. It is clear that children in school need access to many more resources combatting internal issues such as bullying and drug addiction, among others. However, that doesn't alter the fact that more and more children have access to guns and consider using them to remedy mistreatment received from their peers. The problem is multifaceted and needs to be dealt with on numerous levels. Parents and teachers have an enormous responsibility to teach young people that violence is not the answer and intimidation and bullying are entirely inappropriate. But not every killer has a plan. Not every person who buys a gun with malicious intentions has committed a previous crime that would put them on record preventing them from purchasing a weapon in the first place. Just as not every person suffering from mental illness has sought treatment and been diagnosed. The NRA claims that screening for previous crimes and mental health issues are preventatives against gun violence; unfortunately, this is a weak theory. Tighter restrictions on guns are a must.

Whole story seems fishy to me. Ammo or no ammo? He said / she said. Better safe than sorry so police reaction understandable, but I am a skeptic until I hear more details.

For those of you who live in a delusional state and think that a guns purpose is not to kill, you are only fooling yourselves! I happen to live in Richboro where my nephews know this boy and are not surprised by the unfortunate happenings. The high school was the 6th school that this boy attended because he was kicked out of the previous five! In short, the issue here is mental illness. This boy should have been counseled and medicated not moved from school to school. The parents were delinquent in not getting him the help he needed... Guns and mental issues= bad outcome!

I used to go to that school. I cannot in any way condone acts of random violence and taking people's lives over small matters like high school bullying. On the flip side i have seen many situations in that school mishandled where weak people get pushed around and or abused. for example at our middle school we had a disabled kid who would routinely get pulled into the woods behind the school and have the shit beaten out of him by his "friends". those same friends managed to pervert the meaning of friendship in his head to make him think the beatings were normal or part of normal human interaction. that physically and mentally disabled child who had been treated poorly and misinformed then tried to "befriend" me and some of my friends by kicking and or punching us in the gym in front of at least 2 or 3 gym teachers who did nothing. I did not like getting hit and none of the adults would help me and i am not allowed to leave class so i have to just sit there and get kicked in the head by the kid with a mental disability while his "friends" laughed. they couldn't hurt us during shcool hours so they used the mentally infirm to do it. I snapped and ended up putting the kids head into the floor really hard. No one cared. this process repeated multiple times over weeks and months teachers and admins were notified and nothing was done. I ended up shoving the ringleader of the group over a desk and almost got suspended and then the bad stuff stopped.

hey a bit of insight for those who care. I am a former student at that school. I will be vauge on the details but i want to give you guys a window into stuff like this. one of my middle school years i ran afoul of a group of the bad kids. usually this would not be a cause for concern but the devil as always is in the details. See these kids had one of their group who had a moderate amount of mental and physical disability. they convinced him that friends hit each other and would regulaly haul him out into the woods and beat his ass. now when they were in school they would tell this kid lets call him joe. that other kids were saying bad things about him. he would then go apeshit on us and hurt us in front of the teachers while his "friends" who beat him laughed their asses off. I am ashamed to admit that since none of the adults would help me or Joe and i hated having joe kicking me in the head and neck while were sitting in role call line for gym i snapped and slammed his head into the ground. I didn't know what else to do and i was not allowed to leave class or remove myself from the situation without violence and the teachers did not care. So the Joe the mentally and physically disabled kid who was weak and frail would get the ever loving shit kicked out of him by both the bad kids who liked it and the good kids(me) who didn't like to be hit. this went on for months with episodes varying in intensity.

my heart goes out to that disabled kid lets call him Joe. his life must have been so hard. I went to after school clinic sometimes and one time his mom was wandering around the parking lot asking "where is my son" he didn't have a cell phone. she was a single mom and they didn't have much money. I should have told her that he was probably getting beat up in the woods but i was 13 and was not wise to the way things worked. I already got pushed around so much i didn't have the strength to look our for anyone else besides myself and my circle of friends. i regard not telling her what i knew as one of my failures since if she was properly informed she might have been able to intervene. I was young and had my own troubles. when i saw that adam lanza thing on the TV that kids face as i bashed it into the floor flashed in my mind. i almost wanted to cry because huirting him was wrong but i couldn't figure out how to get him to stop hurting me and no one would help. people blame video games and guns and all the rest but i think the root is the lack of ethics community mindedness and the general spinelessness of the people we entrust our kids too and the breakdown of respect in our world. maybe its all part of the same thing. but if that kid went through what i went through i think his bad violenet intentions were not ill founded. they are real good at stripping you of your dignity and making it your fault.
