Romney Campaign Opens "Victory Office" in Bucks

With just over three months until the election, GOP "Super Saturday" aimed to energize grassroots support in Bucks County.

Doylestown Borough Republican committeeman Joe Flood was prepared to spend several hours Saturday knocking on doors with one goal in mind.

“We’ve lost a sense of optimism in this country,” he said. “I want to get it back.”

Flood was among 50 or so stalwart Republicans who braved oppressive heat and humidity Saturday morning to mark the opening of a “Victory Office” on Broad Street in Doylestown. It was one of dozens of events nationally organized by the GOP to fire up the troops in advance of the November 6 election.

“Why are we here?” county GOP chair Pat Poprik asked the sweltering crowd to get things started.

“To take back our country,” they shouted in unison.

Part pep rally and part training session, the event featured remarks by incumbent Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick and Anne Chapman, a Lower Makefield resident who is challenging state Rep. Steve Santarsiero for the 31st District, which includes Newtown. They both stressed the need for the rank and file to maintain their energy levels for the next 95 days.

Fitzpatrick faces a challenge from Democrat Kathy Boockvar, a Doylestown attorney, for the Eighth District seat. He said the recent uptick in unemployment is one more piece of evidence that “the country has gotten off the rails.” The only way to get back on track, he said, “is to change to conductor.”

Fitzpatrick hammered away at the country’s economy, blaming President Obama’s policies for 42 months of unemployment above 8 percent. He lauded Mitt Romney’s experience in both the public and private sectors as reasons he would make an excellent President.

Mostly, though, Fitzpatrick implored the faithful to devote all their efforts to helping Republicans get elected in the fall.

“Whether you are knocking on doors, making phone calls or otherwise engaging voters, we need to finish the job that was started in 2010 and take back the Senate and the White House,” he said. “We can’t do it without your help.”

Richard Tems, another committeeman from Doylestown Borough, said he was anxious to get out and start knocking on doors with Flood.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said.

When Fitzpatrick finished speaking, the audience broke into two groups: one went downstairs to start making phone calls, while the other stayed upstairs to pick up tips from Blake Gobert of the Romney campaign on how to approach voters when going door-to-door.

Before she sat in on the door-to-door training, Julie Curtin of Doylestown Township said she is “100-percent on board” with the GOP platform.

“I want to be part of this,” she said.

Who has the country that they have to "take it back " from? When they "take it back", does that mean those who are not Republican have no country? Did the Republican party not have a country the last 3 years? I'm just asking.

I think the reporting is incomplete. A small group of us stood with portraits and a sign outside the republican headquarters.

We were there to challenges Rep. Fitzpatrick's dissemination of political propaganda. He sent a letter to seniors saying Obamacare cuts Medicare.

Respected healthcare reporting agencies say that Obamacare actually strengthens Medicare?

We want Rep. Fitzpatrick to sit on a panel of experts to explain his statements. If he really cares about seniors, why would he not support an open dialog?

Your reporting did not present the WHOLE picture of the events that transpired at the Republican headquarters.

Looks like we got your attention. So your comment says that you are swept up in the propaganda. How could any good citizen object to having Mike discuss the claim you are repeating? If its true, let's talk about it in a public forum for all to see. Right? Here is a report in bloomberg news that says the claim that Obamacare cuts Medicare is completely false.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-28/medicare-scare-ad-makes-false-claim-of-cuts-for-seniors.html

Let's work together to put together a panel. If seniors are going to be alarmed, who wouldn't want to air out the claims so the seniors and their families could have peace of mind. Can I count on you support in calling for that panel?

Mike hides because he does not want to be challenged.

Agreed. So it sounds like you would be supportive of a forum that includes Mike Fitzpatrick.

There are many experts who would join the panel. PA Health Access Network, The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, the Narional Physicians Alliance.

I will happily take my seat in the audience. But will our congressman participate in a forum with the expressed mission of giving seniors correct information? I think not. Obamacare increases the Medicare budget over ten years and looks for a savings through increased efficiencies. The program gets stronger than ever.

Who would not want to see our congressman participate in a forum where Medicare and the healthcare law are openly discussed for all to hear?

If a leader really cares about seniors, he would certainly want them to have correct information and allow himself to be challenged in a public way. But if the intention is to mislead seniors to scare them into voting for him without the facts, that leader just might want to dodge his constituents.

We could all exchange pithy remarks in the comment section of this article forever, and still we would have a representative who will not discuss his assertions in an open forum.

Let's see, the GOP wants the elderly to accept a coupon and then go find their own health insurance (ensuring, of course, those big salaries and bonuses for the top execs and the industry lobbyists). Romney goes to Israel and praises their constitution - a constitution that guarantees EVERY Israeli citizen healthcare (Israel has a nationalized health care system - socialist to the gop). I'm happy for them, not so much for us.

Rep. Fitzpatrick says otherwise? Why does he hide from the challenge to explain himself when the facts do not support his claim?

I invite the press to sit in on a conversation between me and Mike about Obamacare and Medicare.

You are not a healthcare professional, nor an expert on the financing, design or implementation of Medicare policy. Let's hear from professionals in the field and the health care providers who have to deal with the nightmare bureaucracy that comes with Medicare these days. Less money to reimburse providers, while costs go up. Obamacare cut Medicare by 500 billion dollars, that's a fact.

Today, it was announced that the most recent CBO report on Obamacare reveals that 30 million will still remain uninsured in the year 2022. Looks like O-Care is a big, socialist, redistributive expensive folly that does not and will not cut health care costs for patients, allow patients to keep the private insurance they do have, nor provide more access to providers in a timely fashion.

You make a very good point about Obamacare leaving out so many. Without the expansion of Medicaid in some states, more people will continue to be uninsured. These would be the people at the low end of the pay scale making between about $12,000 -$15,000/year. They work, their jobs don't provide insurance, and they can not afford the premiums on the individual market.

The ruling from the Supreme Court on the expansion of Medicaid (making it optional) will leave many uninsured who would have been covered.

That said many millions more will still gain access under obamacare. Obamacare gives low-middle income people a way to pay their fair share so they can get health insurance.

Your comment also shines a light on a for-profit system that must find ways NOT to pay claims to remain profitable. It's a simple business equation.

Your point is often cited by the advocates of a single-payer system. And some states are working toward that end. Obamacare gives states a lot of flexibility in setting up their own systems as long as they are as good or better than Obamacare.

Some states will ignore the provision to expand Medicaid and suffer the consequences of higher numbers of uninsured and continued uncompensated care in hospitals.

The clever quips are fine but then what happens?

We end up NOT talking about a congressman who sent out an letter seniors with the express intent to scare them into voting for him.

Look, Mike sent the letter. Why won't he be part of a forum to explain himself? Who is against public forums where information is dissected for the benefit of citizens? Why is that controversial and undesirable?

Please join forces with me to call for many open forums where voters can get information from all sides. Then the voters can decide for themselves.

Teresa, Obama killed Medicare Advantage. The people on it, loved it...and Obama nuked the sucker.

Congressman Fitzpatrick is running for reelection. He is speaking to people all over the district. His campaign events are public. Drop by some day.

Just for your information, the Republican Party took back control of the House of Representatives after 4 years of horrendous mismanagement by running AGAINST Obamacare, against Nancy Pelosi, against Barack Obama. Americans are still against Obamacare. That's why we won in 2010 and that's why we will win in 2012.

We will keep the House, probably take the Senate and have a great shot at beating Barack Obama....all because of Obamacare, 8.3% unemployment and 16 TRILLION, yes, TRILLION dollars of debt piled up by Obama and Reid.

Richard,
I would love to drop by to get a list of Mike's "public" appearances. Would that be the Republican headquarters? His office? I have called Mike's office several times to find out when his August town meetings are. They can't ever give me the information. Do you know?

Also, Medicare Advantage stopped receiving overpayments -- subsidies -- money over and above the normal traditional Medicare senior allotment. The stopping of the overpayments has been in place for awhile which is only fair. Why should every taxpayer subsidize private business. Medicare Advantage is stronger than ever and the price went down a tiny bit.

So, given that you feel so sure of your facts, I am surmising you would SUPPORT a panel (Iwith Mike on it) to discuss Obamacare and Medicare. Why wouldn't we want seniors to have correct information? Surely, you and Mike are not against that. Can I count on your support?

Really would appreciate you telling me where it is I'm supposed to get this information about where Mike's "public" appearances are.
Thanks so much, Richard. I have been looking and asking for so long. You are the first person to be able to tell me how I can get this information. I look forward to your response.

Americans for Prosperity? They're a Right wing political organization.

But if you want a rep. from their organization in the forum, I have no objection.

So this means you support a public forum with Mike participating?

One of the many laws progressives ignore is the Law of Unintended Consequences. Doctors are already discussing opting out of Medicare and providing health care to patients on a fee basis...cutting out the insurance companies, Medicare and, most of all, the government. The Left dreams of Single Payer...and, it will never happen.

You may be referring to Medicaid. More drs. opt out of medicaid. But that varies from state to state because each state pays so differently. States with higher reimbursement rates have high participation rates, obviously. Obamacare addresses that problem by raising the rates of Medicaid payments for primary care physicians to equal that of Medicare docs. And the push will be to make that raise permanent because early intervention saves a lot of money. This problem of uncompensated care adds about $1,000/yr. to family policies of actual premium payers. So everyone having access to insurance and healthcare is important notwithstanding the obvious benefits of a healthy citizenry.

More physicians are dropping out of Medicare these days. Read the plethora of articles from health care organizations, providers and professional associations. OBAMACARE cut $500 billion from Medicare, the reimbursements to physicians have decreased not increased. Ask any local physician about that.
