Tennent to Host Countywide PTO Meeting

Concerned with how the recent state budget cuts will affect your wallet and/or your child's education? Talk to the legislators involved in the decision making process at a countywide forum at William Tennent High School Thursday evening.

The Pennsylvania legislature recently slashed public education spending by more than 10 percent, roughly $900 million, and school districts across the Commonwealth are feeling the pinch.

“Every public school district in Bucks County was affected this year by cuts to programs, employee furloughs, increased class size and reduced services,” said Centennial School Board Member Mark Miller.

Miller said this is especially problematic as Governor Corbett has announced his legislative priority to divert another $1 Billion from public education, to fund his program of vouchers and charter school expansion.

In an effort to facilitate the discussion between legislators and their constituents, Centennial is hosting a countywide meeting to discuss education policy, funding and pending legislation Thursday evening.

“Every Bucks County resident has a potential interest in this meeting,” said Miller.  “This includes the large percentage of taxpayers who do not have any children in Pennsylvania's education system.”

Miller said the conversation at the meeting will revolve around several topics, including but not limited to: funding for education, charter school laws and accountability, cyber charter funding, school choice and vouchers, taxing authority and the Strike Free Education Act.
