To Market Day, To Market Day

A portion of the proceeds from the popular food purchase program benefit the McDonald-Davis Home and School Association.

Several members of the McDonald-Davis community stopped by the school’s cafeteria Tuesday evening to pick up large cardboard boxes filled with various assortments of premade foods.

The boxes all contained items purchased though the elementary school’s Market Day program.

According to Sales Representative Anna Perks, Market Day is a fundraising food cooperative that partners with various organizations across the country.

Market Day sells a wide range of prepared foods, meats, vegetables and snacks. They return a portion of the proceeds from the food sales to the participating organization.

Dee Runion is the volunteer parent coordinator for McDonald-Davis’s Market Day program. She said catalogs of the foods available for purchase are sent home with students each month. Parents can then place an order through her, or directly on the company’s website.

“When you buy frozen vegetables at the supermarket it is typically hit or miss,” said Runion. “The great thing about Market Day is that the foods are consistently good.”

She said her family particularly loves the frozen broccoli, but the chicken steaks are a popular item with many of the people who place orders.

This month 19 families ordered from the school’s Market Day program, raising approximately $100 for the McDonald-Davis Home and School Association’s Activities Fund.
