Trash Collection Moves to Once Per Week

Both trash and recyclables will now be collected only on Fridays.

Did you get a lot of spring cleaning done this weekend? Well, don't haul all of that trash to the curb just yet.

The trash collection schedule for Upper Southampton has changed. Starting today, May 1, residents will only receive trash pickup once per week.

Both trash and recyclables will now be collected on Fridays, by separate trucks. Yard waste will be collected on Mondays.

For all of the particulars regarding rules and regulations regarding the new trash and single-stream recycling collection across the township, read a copy of the ordinance posted in the pdf section of this article.

I am so glad that the Supervisors had so little confidence in the residents/taxpayers, that they did not even seek the opinion of the taxpayers before enacting once a week trash collection. If twice a week collection, which we have always had was going to cost more, let the taxpayers decide if they want to pay for this service!!!

What is even more disturbing, is that the Supervisors cancelled last nights meeting to "Run for Cover", knowing that many residents planned on attending the meeting to express their displeasure with the one a week trash collection. Are the Supervisors taking lessons from the School Board on how to mistreat the taxpayers???

My suggestion is that if you have a party on the weekend and the trash starts to smell by midweek, take your trash to the curb outside one of the Supervisors homes!!!

Horrible! This is the first I've heard of this. I recieved a pamphlet in the mail a few weeks ago, but assumed it was an error since it had "Northampton Township" printed all over it. Judging by the display of trash cans lined up as far as I can see down my street, my neighbors are equally unaware of this change. Great leadership! Thanks!

Penny wise and pound foolish perhaps. The trucks will have to idle longer in the street to pick up the same amount of generated trash..creating more emissions and using more gas. I will wait to see if the system works before bashing it completely.

i don't the truck will idle that much longer to pick the trash. that is just ridiculous. Also the township is taking the extra trash money and using it for other stuff that is not trash related. Misappropriation at its finest!!!

I am very happy that we are not polluting the air with trash trucks driving around needlessly. Save your trash for Friday and save the environment. Better yet, recycle more so you don't have so much trash during the week.

Look John and Jane Taxpayer, this is YOUR township. There are ways to protest this. Government is supposed to be in place for YOU -- YOUR voice. Organize a legal protest and see what other LEGAL options you have. But to bring your trash to a meeting is simply wrong. I'd make sure those who did such a childish action be forced to place it back in their vehicles or get a summons.
Avoid "knee-jerk" reactions here people and think this through.

I called about this. For certain holidays (such as Memorial Day), trash/recylcing pickup is pushed to Saturday. Although I do not remember reading this in the pamphlet, it is mentioned on the site that was linked from the township site.

Well here it is Saturday June 2nd and our trash has still not been picked up. So much for saving $15 a year by going to once a week trash/recycling. At 5:30AM our recycling was finally picked up and I thought they could not start before 6:00AM. Great job saving us $15. Wonder how long the trash will sit there today.
