After another ugly loss Sunday, this one a season-ender to the New York Giants, just how long will it take for Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid to be put out of his misery?
He might be gone by the time you read this column.
This loss wasn't even worth mentioning the final score, but the Giants put up more than 40 points as the Eagles made the same mistakes they made all year – terrible tackling, turnovers and horrible pass coverage. (Ok, it was 42-7.)
Eli Manning looked more like Peyton Manning Sunday, tossing five touchdown passes in a game that the Giants needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Reid, on the other hand, was wrapping up his 14th season as coach, and the fans and media and everyone else have been calling for his head for months now.
Owner Jeff Lurie said that last season's 8-8 record was "unacceptable." You can only imagine what he thinks of 4-12?
Quarterback Michael Vick made his return since being knocked out with a concussion more than a month ago, yet he was once again running for his life, taking hits and tossing an interception, a key one on the first series that seemed to pretty much kill any momentum the Eagles were ever going to have Sunday.
Things looked promising as the Birds tried – and recovered – an onsides kick to start the game. It went downhill from there.
Running back Shady McCoy continued to make plays out of nothingness, as he has done all year. Other than that, there wasn't much positive to talk about.
The Birds managed a touchdown on a pass from Vick to Jeremy Maclin. A field goal was blocked on another trip to the Red Zone. That was all she wrote.
Vick was so ineffective that Trent Edwards entered the game with a little more than six minutes left in the game to get some much-earned playing time, kind of a reward for having such a great pre-season. At least Reid did the right thing there.
The Eagles usually have the Giants' number. Not Sunday. So now we all wait for the hammer to fall. Either way, this horrible season of ugliness has ended. We all should be thankful for that.

I wouldn't exactly say Trent Edwards' playing time was "much-earned."
Also, the Eagles have split the season series with the Giants the past two seasons, although the Birds DID win six in a row at one point. Still, hard to say that the Eagles usually have the Giants number when they've only been 14-13 against them under Andy Reid (including the playoffs).

Anyone wanting to know what team looks like when it quits saw it in yesterday's game. The entire team should be embarrassed for their lack of performance, which includes the coaches and the entire front office.

I agree, Mark. Pro football is an entertainment business, and the Eagles were not entertaining yesterday. The Giants must have felt like they were in training camp, running their first string offense against the scrubs in a no-contact drill.

Somehow the team turned into a Rube Goldberg device. Pass happy coach with a quarterback that never seemed to understand the offense while having an all-pro running back who never had enough carries, a wide-9 defense that made other teams salivate, defensive backs not knowing how to cover and tackle, special teams not so special, questionable draft choices and free agent signings. Add in assistant coaches with huge egos and selfish agendas and it was a disaster. If an Eagles team cannot bring any "fight" playing the hated Giants in New Jersey, then they truly lost their heart and soul.

Andy did bring us winning for most of the time .Who remember when the BIRDS WERE so bad that they wounldnt even be on tv. His down fall really started to when VICK came , yea yea Vick.What a waste. Good luck to you ,ANDY , If you want a job , iam sure your have one real soon.

They always blame the coach. It's a shame they can't fire the whole team and start all over. These players make a lot of money. What would happen if you did your job the way they played this year?
