Values, Vision Topics of First Lady's Speech in Montco
The values and the vision for this country are reasons why President Obama is running for second term, Michelle Obama said.
About 1,500 people were fired up to see First Lady Michelle Obama at Upper Dublin High School on Thursday afternoon.
Among them was Dan Siegel. In 2009, Siegel said, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Siegel, the regional field director for Montgomery County for the Obama re-election campaign, said they were lucky to have full health insurance to cover the costs of his mother's medical expenses. Now, he said, the Affordable Care Act, President Obama's signature legislation, means his mother's illness never will be considered a pre-existing condition and cannot disqualify her for health coverage.
Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro said he and his wife spent time at the White House and were surprised by how much the President and First Lady are like “one of us.”
Shapiro said, “The First Lady gets it – the real challenges of our families.”
“They have done so much for us,” he continued.
“The President and the First Lady aren’t done working for you,” said Shapiro, “I’m working as hard as I can to make it eight [years]. … It’s up to us and up to you to make the difference,” he continued.
Julie Haywood, a local resident, welcomed the First Lady to Upper Dublin High School. After helping on the 2008 campaign, Haywood said she felt compelled to get more involved in her community, so she ran for school board in Cheltenham, where she lives.
“I stand with Obama because he stands with working mothers like me,” said Haywood.
She said she believes "our economy should work for everyone," and with that, she introduced First Lady Michelle Obama.
Obama began by thanking those volunteers who have helped move the campaign forward. During the last campaign, grassroots campaigning was what won the election, she said, adding that that's how "we’re going to do it again."
Obama said her husband is running for a second term “because of our values…the values we believe in…[and] the vision for this country that we believe in.”
Obama said her husband “knows what it means when your family struggles,” because both Obama and her husband grew up in middle class families. The stories that her husband has heard along the campaign trail and during the last three and a half years have kept him going, she said.
“He stood up for our most fundamental rights again and again and again,” said Obama, “All of that’s at stake and so much more.”
“The chance to finish what we’ve started,” she continued.
She said that elections are about the world we want to leave for our children.
“We can’t turn back now, we’ve come so far.”

I would love to hear why conservatives are so anti-Obama without having to wade through a swamp of grade school insults. I believe Mr Obama's programs are better for America than Mr Romney's and I am capable of making an argument in support of them. I don't hate Mr Romney, nor do I begrudge him his millions. I just think his program will exacerbate and hasten the impoverishment of the middle class.

He has never produced anything, never held a job that produced anything, gives free stuff to people who don't work, passes obamacare where we "have to pass the bill before we know what's in it", spends $878 billion to keep inflation below 8%, thinks people who start businesses didn't deserve any of the rewards, gives free stuff to lazy people---oh wait, said that already, hates israel, loves his priest who hates america, need more??

Aside from extending the George W. Bush tax cuts (I can never resist the urge to connect one of President Obama's few "acomplishments" to the one man present day Democrats loath!), what has the President done for the middle class.
Do you really think the ACA (Obamacare) is going to REDUCE the costs YOU oay for your healthcare? Not with all the added coverages and programs that are also required.
How about President Obama's Leadership on economic recovery? Where is it? What plans, bills or initiatives by Democrats and The White House come up with, besides an admittedly successful bailout of GM, and extending the BUSH tax cuts (again, just can't resist)?
When the Democrats held a filibuster-proof majority in Congress and the nation was reeling under a growing economic crises, what did they accomplish besides shoving the ACA down the throats of Republicans in Congress (which by the way destroyed any hope of bipartisan success in Washington)?
Economic Leadership has been nonexistent out of The White House at a time when investor and consumer Confidence would normally lead to quicker, more vibrant recovery. There is no Confidence because there is no Plan!
Those are my issues with President Obama's and the Democrat's "leadership" in Washington. All spending, no vision ...

It will be a sad day if President Obama does not get re elected. The world will have true confirmation that America can not get past what has plague us for a long while now. When I see comments so mean spirited. that has nothing really to do about where the country is heading it is very troublesome to know that I have spent 20 years in the military to defend such venom towards two people. Come on if you really believe that two Americans is responsible for the plight of this country woes. Then which one of you so called Patriots can do a better job. Grow up and stop slinging playground words about people you have never met. God forbid we fall back in time to those golden years of the KKK George Wallace and those who were afraid of something being taken away from them. Fear breeds ignorance. Let us start showing the world why we are a Great country by evolving into having intellectual respectful dialogue. Whether we agree or disagree. We have to be better than this. Unemployment remains above 8% because government sector workers have been laid off in record numbers over the past 20 months. Estimates are that 1.1M jobs have been lost in the public sector, with an economic multiplier effect such that a further 750K private sector jobs have been lost. The unemployment rate would be around 7.1% if those jobs had not been lost. The preponderance of layoffs have been in red states where the recessionary impact of layoffs is considered less important than reducing deficits while not raising taxes. What should Obama have done? Force governors like Corbett, Christie, Kasich, Walker, Scott and Snyder not to layoff public employees? Do you lay any blame at the feet of Republicans for laying people off and continuing the recession?

For all you Obama advocates...Per Mrs. Obama, "Not done working for you!?" Name three things that Obama has done during his term to improve financial or ecomonical stability in your household?
I can't think of one, unless you're on welfare, (which I believe should be available for those who truly need it, not the majority that abuse it) and have better looking acrylic nails, jewelry, and nicer cars. Why work? That's their thinking.
This nation has had the longest, worst financial stability and unemployment rates since The Great Depression.

Wow, The Left's FDP is to call you a RACIST!!! Any one with an understanding of the free market and basic economics would be better than Obama and his failed Leftists. This has NOTHING to do with Obama's race. It has everything to do with his incompetence. He has had 3 1/2 years to turn the economy around and he has FAILED. Time to give the job to someone else.

Please ... For TWO YEARS the President had a filibuster-proof majority in both Houses and, despite the need for immediate economic action, all theDemocrats concentrated on - and accomplished - was shoving the ACA down the opposition's throat. That's what happened to the bipartisan approach the President touted during his transition (with assists from Nancy and Harry).
After that NOTHING in the way of Leadership on the economic front!
President Obama might have inheritied a bad economy; but he certainly hasn't done anything to get us out of it.

Oh please Mike, Fillbuster proof for two years... http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/did-the-democrats-ever-really-have-60-votes-in-the-senate-and-for-how-long/ more like 5 months. (if you take the two brief periods and put them together. Also look at how much of the house voted for Obama's plans, the senate left him hanging as they fillbustered everything, look at the amount of times the fillbuster was used. Please read up on Secret holds and on the increase use of the fillbuster. During that time the D's bent over backwards to try and get the one or two votes they needed from the republicans and generally they were lead to water down the bills and in some cases still didn't get the republicans votes even after they changed it to stuff that they should have agreed on.
I mean as much as you guys are arguing about the ACA it's freaking RomneyCare and very close to what the republicans put forward in the 90's. You don't get to compromise more then that.

I am a Registered Republican. But calling anyone a Ape draws the line for me. And should not be tolerated. Do your talking at the voters booth. It is funny how when race is mentioned people swear up and down that they are not Racist. Talk to the man or woman in the mirror. As much as most want to place all the blame on President Obama. If you look at the whole picture. You will see enough blame to go around for Decades.

I am old enough to remember what the Left and the media said about Carter, "The job is too tough for one man. No one can do a better job, least of all an over the hill B movie actor". The rest is, as they say, history.
Obama has failed. Anyone else would be better.

The Obama regime has failed. They have no positive accomplishments to run on. They have no new programs to run on. Now, they will try to destroy the Romney-Ryan ticket because they have no plan to point to themselves.
Obama-Biden regime is a complete and utter failure. If they are given 4 more years, taxes will go up, those laws are already passed and signed by Obama.
The economy will not just stagnate, but will crater. GDP growth in the last quarter was 1.5% DOWN from the previous quarter of 2.1%.
The Obamists have no idea how to change that....no idea at all.
8.3% unemployment? That will look good a year from now if Obama and his minions are still in power.
Obama care, 2,700 page bill, 35,000 pages of new regs and counting...doctors leaving medicine. The wealthy will have concierge medicine and the rest of us will be stuck in clinics with non-US trained PA's.

Since the early 1970's the democratic party has been hijacked by the left. They use to have moderates and conservatives but have purged them. Obama is the result. It is important to remember that our economy was humming along until 2006 when the dems took over BOTH the House and Senate. When we regain some sanity in Congress we will see real progress. Ryan is the best VP choice in a long long time.

@Deborah. You asked an Obama supporter to name three things he has done to promote economical stability in my household:
1) The Affordable Care Act has lowered the cost of my drugs in the Medicare 'donut hole'.
2) His push to maintain the Bush tax cuts for the middle class enables me to survive on a limited pension.
3) He got a Financial Reform Act passed that created the Consumer Finance Protection Agency to protect all of us from predatory lending by pay day loan operations and credit card companies.
The stimulus bill helped the US to create hundreds of thousand of private sector jobs, many more than George Bush, although, admittedly, the loss of public sector jobs has kept the unemployment rate unacceptably high. He has provided tax breaks to small businesses, giving them the opportunity to provide health care to their workers.
He also signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to give my daughter and daughter-in-law a chance to receive equal pay as women, and given my gay relatives the opportunity to have equal protection under the law.
He got Osama Bin Laden, strongly supported veterans and he signed a new nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia.
In response, may I ask what you think Romney/Ryan will do. I already know they want to lower taxes for millionaires. What else?

I am not a big fan of Obama, however I am more scared of the Republicans. They pander to big buisness and the invisible "shareholders". If big business gave a damn about the people they employ instead of a reasonable bottom line I would be a Republican. They will do anything to cut a job.
Do you really believe Big Business wants a low unemployment rate? Of course not. When the job market is good for us, we can demand more money and benefits, negotiate your terms, and leave for a better job if you've had enough.
Big Business doesnt want that. They want to keep people begging for jobs, so they can pay them less and then call that money you would have gotten "more profits". Big Business does not want you to feel empowered. Its bad for Business.
I dont want Socialism but turning us into 2 classes of Wealthy and Poor is just as bad.
