What's the Most Romantic Movie of All Time?
Everyone has a list and every one is different.
If you're planning on snuggling up with your significant other to watch a romantic movie on Valentine's Day, you certainly have lots of options. But what are the good options?
Depends who you ask.
The folks at Timeout New York list their 50 favorite romantic movies and they must love the classics, because four of the top 10 movies were from the 1940s, including their number one pick, Casablanca.
Moviefone also lists Casablanca as number one followed by Titanic. They deserve extra credit for including the animated Lady and the Tramp as well as cult classic The Princess Bride.
A more modern list can be found over at Reelz, where three of the top five movies come from the Twilight series, including the top two.
The flipside has to be The American Film Institute's top 100 love stories that they released way back when in 2002. Of their top five choices, the most recent was West Side Story, released in, wait for it, 1961.
So what movie are you going to watch with your valentine this year?

Titanic is definitely romantic, but so is The Notebook!

I'm with Nicole. The Notebook takes the cake for me. Their love was so powerful!

I guess you could call it romantic, but the Princess Bride is one of my favorites for all of its great one-liners, including: "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." "No more rhymes now, I mean it...Anybody want a peanut?" "You seem a decent fellow... I hate to kill you...You seem a decent fellow... I hate to die."

Good call, Joe. Love that movie. Of course, any movie with Andre the Giant is halfway to awesome!

It is "inconceivable" that the Princess Bride is not on this list!!

My vote is for "Natural Born Killers." The characters may have not been the best to others - but they loved each other.

How about anti-Valentine's Day movies? War of the Roses in particular comes to mind.

The Irish film "Once" tops the list in my book. Also, I enjoyed "500 Days of Summer."

I loved "500 Days of Summer" but it's sort of heart-wrenching how it ends

The original Rocky had such a sweet love story that no one remembers. Adrian!!

I would have to say "P.S. I love you" and "Walk the line" is right up there with the "Notebook"

I'm with Sharon. I LOVED "P.S. I love you" and "Notebook", but also "The Time Traveler's Wife" was really touching.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "When Harry Met Sally."

A film rarely seen but so romantic and sweet on different levels is "Return to Me" starring Minnie Driver and David Duchovany. Realy great film and not a chick flick because of Carroll O'COnnor and Robert Loggia :)

Behind the Green Door starring Marilyn Chambers. An all time classic that still brings a tear to my eye.

I'm obviously seriously late to this discussion, but my fave romantic movie just hit me. "Say Anything." hands down.

That's a good one Jess. Here's my favorite quote..."I don't want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed or buy anything sold or processed or repair anything sold, bought or processed as a career."

Jesseka - I love that movie, but it's part romance, part stalker flick.

One that I haven't seen mentioned is "Braveheart." The whole movie is propelled by lead character Wallace's love for his murdered fiance. The one scene where McCormack (Female lead) and Gibson are playfully chasing each other in the beautiful backdrop of Scottish greenery to me is super romantic,..,,

As a political junky, I was always a sucker for "The American President", Michael Douglas and Annette Benning ... Liberal President goes toe-to-toe politically speaking with the Environemntal Lobby and goes gaga over its lead political head-hunter/closer.
There's no spousal cheating, since the POTUS' wife died pre-movie. No bloody carnage (Natural Born Killers and Braveheart?? ... Really??). And political conservatives get to play the Bad Guys ... again. (Gotta LOVE single-minded Hollywood!)

Mike, I watched The American President last night - thanks for the inspiration! I've always loved that movie and hadn't watched it in ages.
A. J. MacInerney: Excuse me, sir, where are you going?
President Andrew Shepherd: I'm going over to her house. I'm going to stand outside her door until she let's me in, and I'm not leaving 'til I get her back.
A. J. MacInerney: How are you going to do that, sir?
President Andrew Shepherd: Well, I haven't worked that out yet, but I'm sure groveling will be involved.
