Upper Southampton Trash Pick Up

Southampton, are we tired of one-day(Friday) trash pick up yet? Mine and others have stated IT STINKS! Just wait until it gets warmer. Might work on a Monday or Tuesday.

Why did they change to one day pick-up? Seems to me more trash to pick up in one day means more trips to dump the trucks loads and more man hours for the extra trash. So if saving money is the point, I am not sure once a week will work. I would expect that they will get enough complaints to change it to two days again...but expect an increase in our trash bill for it. Friday to Friday is a long time for households to hold onto their trash.

Very tired of it, already. We put out our trash late Thursday night, and it didn't get picked up until Saturday (NOT Friday). I'd be happy to pay $100 per year extra to get my 2nd trash pick up day back, and I'd be happy to return the recycle bin that I didn't need in the first place. Is there a township location where we can drop our extra trash in case the pickup doesn't occur?

I agree, Monday is the day to have it picked up if it is only going to be one day a week. Everyones weekend picnic garbage will be pretty ripe by the following weekend.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I can't seem to remember ever being a day late because of a holiday. I also notice that the trash guys didn't like taking our trash before and now more so than ever! They won't even pick up anything heavy anymore...they eye it up and slap a note on it. So frustrating to have trash sitting on the side of my house for weeks now vs. two pick ups just to get rid of an excess.

* just to clarify, I haven't noticed a late pick up prior to this past Memorial Day.

I personally have never had a problem with trash pickup. They have always picked up what I put out, and on time. Last week it was a day later, but I already knew it would be because of the holiday. It was all in the pamphlet they sent to all the residents. Would I like to have picked up on two days? Yes, but since it is not happening, I like the Friday pick up. That way trash is not sitting around all weekend when I have people over or parties. I really don't get why some people are so mad over the trash issue. I think we have bigger problems in the township besides that trash issue. For example, the school board spending all our tax money and wanting more!!!

I calld the township today and was told "very few people are complaining" about the new once a week trash pick up policy....REALLY? I was informed that most people find it to be a welcome change. That doesn't seem to be the case on my street but far be it from me to call anyone a liar. I inquired about the possibility of employing a private trash company to come to my house, at my expense, to remove my trash on a day of my choosing. I was told, the township will "allow me to do that." YAY me!

I have to say that this change does not bother me at all. My household just doesn't generate that much trash, I guess, because prior to the switch, I would rarely have to put out my trash two days a week. I am happy about the bigger recycle bin as the small tub was cracked from being tossed around and just not big enough. I also like that the yard waste is being picked up on Monday, after I've spent the weekend doing yardwork.

I'm with Heidi. Even with 4 of us in the house we rarely had trash out on two days. The big recycling bins are a huge plus to me.

I have lived in various suburbs all my life and never had twice a week pick up. People just have to have time to adjust.

Walt - There are previous articles that quoted the savings to the township. I don't think it is as much as it might seem.

i don't mind the 1 day trash pick up and actually like that is on a friday. that way you don't have it smelling all weekend. i have one of those heavy trash cans with the attached lid that gets covered so no losing your lids. I also didn't often have enough trash for 2 days. However I have a ton of recycables. So i was VERY happy to see a new recycle bin. I also like that the leaves pick was changed to monday. I'm always in my yard in the weekend and hated that i had to wait for the following saturday to put out branches and those brown bags.

When we moved to Holland in 1985 we could chose our trash company and pay directly to them. I don't understand why township forces us to have the company they chose and pay to them. Lets go to the old times and everybody would be able again to pick up the trash company and the schedule which fits them best.

you do realize we get a quantity price break don't you? their are if I recall correctly 3 other townships involved in the bid. You think trash removal costs are high now.

What do you think would happen when the trash men have to go every 2nd or 3rd house..
Oh let me guess. they'll sent a truck to your house on the day of your choosing for a competitive price..
Instead of the the majority of the township people adjusting to you, How about you adjusting.
You can't adj to simple trash pick?
Wow, What would happen if something major happens

Just saying..

I totally agree with ELA, I'd much prefer to select my own trash company and that solves everyone's problem. Meanwhile,,,,the corn cobs, chicken bones and dog poop in the trash can in my hot garage smell FANTASTIC! And no, I'm NOT putting my trash cans outside, that's not a "look" I want my home to have.

I've had enough of the 1-day; tts created a problem I've never had before, as I travel for work. The 2-day schedule gave me the flexibility to miss 1 pick up now and again with little impact. Now, if I'm away on business I miss an entire week. I've never looked forward to winter, seems this year it will alleviate my trash worries because it will freeze outside.
