About this column:

A candid look at artists who have a Southampton connection.
Who doesn't love a good party? It’s even better when that party is accompanied by good music. Mix the two together and you have what Prowler brings to the stage. Their beat driven dance music is enough to get even the tough guys bouncing. They combine the disco of the 70’s with the punk of the 80s and add a dash of some modern-day club music. It is something you just have to listen to even try to digest it.Three of the bandmates, Ryan Kerriagan, Keith Greiman and Mike Stazseski, are Southampton natives that still like to keep it local often. A little while back, I was able to share a glass of…
For the past 30 years, Steve Guyger and his band The Excellos have been bringing the blues to clubs all over the country. While their style is classic and rock blues, it is a fresh sound to the Southampton area, an area where the acts that take center stage are typically either DJ, acoustic set or cover band driven. Others have taken notice, too, as songs by the band have been featured both on the soundtrack for an episode of Showtime's "Weeds," as well as in the video game "NBA 2K10" by 2k sports. The band's music falls into what I would consider to be a folk rock genre. They utilize banjo and telephones to add to their sound and entertain the crowd. I was able to pull bassist Martin Hoeger, a Southampton native, …
In the world of the bar scene, the cover band reigns supreme. Not since my college days have I found a group as entertaining as the boys that call themselves BoomStache. The band, with a guitarist and drummer who hail from Southampton, has drawn me out on a few occasions. Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with them about their band and their beards. Here’s the part about their band:A BoomStache consists of:Virgil Cardamone (Vocals)Matt Dicicco (Guitar)Rich Penecale (Guitar)Collin Schmidt aka "Cheeto" (Bass)Ian Ambron (Drums)TB: Bands usually take a while to gel and you guys are pretty …
