Party-backed Republicans easily defeat Tea Party candidates to be delegates to their national convention.
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney took a big step in his quest to secure the GOP nomination with a five-state sweep on Tuesday, including a landslide victory in the Pennsylvania primary. Romney easily outdistanced his opponents among Pennsylvania Republicans with 58 percent of the vote. Among Bucks County voters, the former Massachusetts governor also won big, securing 27,532 votes for 66.6 percent. As of midnight, 9,165 out of 9,260 districts (98.97%) were reporting statewide while in Bucks County, 302 of the 304 districts have been counted. Former Sen. The state Supreme Court ruled that would-be challenger Gloria Carlineo did not have enough signatures to remain on the GOP nomination ballot for the 29th district.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that Gloria Carlineo fell short of the 300 signatures required on her nomination petitions to appear on the April 24 primary ballot, phillyburbs.com reports. Carlineo was prepared to challenge State Representative Bernie O'Neill for the GOP nomination in the 29th district, but Bucks County Republican Committee members Kiel Sigafoos and Tom Panzer, vice chairman of the Warminster board of supervisors, disputed her signatures in early March. The Commonwealth Court ruled against Carlineo, and the state Supreme Court affirmed the ruling on Thursday. Carlineo's campaign chairman, Andy Raffle, told phillyburbs.com that Carlineo had at least 320 valid signatures and that the court unfairly threw out many …

Forget about who WILL win, which GOP presidential hopeful SHOULD win the Pennsylvania primary?
The GOP presidential primary race seems to have been going on forever, but it's finally nearing its conclusion. Pennsylvania voters finally get their say on April 24. There's no shortage of polls out there. Gallup has plenty of information, including projecting head-to-head races with President Obama, and USA Today, which has a cool graphic that lets you see the nationwide picture as well as individual states. But that's all about who might win. We think the bigger question is, who should win. So cast a ballot in our poll and, more importantly, leave a comment to tell us who Pennsylvanians should support in the GOP primary. We'll close our poll April 23 at midnight. Today is the last day to register to vote in next month's primary.
The Republican presidential race continues to grab headlines and it looks like Pennsylvania might actually play a role in choosing the GOP candidate. But if you're not registered, you can't vote - there's plenty on the ballot - and today is the deadline for registering to vote in the April 24 primary. Don't fret, the state has an online portal that can handle most of your election-related needs: The Web site for Pennsylvania's Deparment of State also has useful information, such as the list of primary candidates in ballot order.

To vote in the November 2012 election, polling places will require photo identification.
In order to cast a vote in the November 2012 general election, all voters are required to show a photo ID at the polling place. Acceptable photo IDs include identification issued by the federal government or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (a driver's license or non-driver's license photo ID), a valid U.S. passport that has not expired, a U.S. military ID, an employee photo ID issued by the federal, state, county or municipal government, photo IDs from an accredited public or private Pennsylvania college or university, or an ID card issued by a state care facility. The Pennsylvania primary on April 24 "could be a battle royal" for Republican presidential candidates, Fox 29 news reported. With front runner Mitt Romney unable to solidify the nomination, the primary in Pennsylvania will likely be a hotly contested race between him and opponent Rick Santorum. Santorum has the home-field advantage in the Keystone State. He served as Pennsylvania's senator from 1995 to 2007. Candidates need 1,144 delegates for the nomination. As of today, Romney has 495 delegates, Santorum has 252 and Newt Gingrich has 131, according to the Wall Street Journal. March 26 is the last day to register to vote in the primary election.
