Voting (for Atticus Finch) is the Best Revenge

Shockingly, 52 architects of the PA Voter ID law are running unopposed this November. That means no matter how voters in these districts feel about them, they will be re-elected! This is outrageous!

This year, after working against the badly written voter ID law, I discovered that 47 of the 104 state representatives and 5 of the senators that voted for this law are running unopposed in the November election.

I thought the fact that voters in their districts will have no say at the polls was outrageous.

Four of them are right here in Bucks County - Gene DiGirolamo, Frank Ferry, Scott Petri, and Kathy Watson.

That is why a write-in campaign for "Atticus Finch" was started against Daryl Metcalfe, the architect of the law, and the other 51 members of the PA Assembly that are running unopposed.

That’s why we’re asking voters who live in these districts to write in "Atticus Finch," the hero of Harper Lee’s civil rights masterpiece "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Atticus is a figure who truly stands for the idea that civil rights, including the right to vote, come first and that our elections should include everyone – not just those who can jump through the hoops to get a state-approved photo ID with an expiration date.

A message that messing with our right to vote is not acceptable needs to be sent.

There are four representatives running unopposed in Bucks County, more than any other county in the state.

I am also hoping that if you see that a fictious character makes a showing in November, that it will give someone who lives these districts the courage to run against them in 2014.

I agree every citizen should only get 1 vote, but a law that doesn't not stop in person voter fraud as it is advertised to do and only stops people who have been legally voting for decades is not the way to do it. Congratulations on your son getting his permit. I will guess that you are not a senior with mobility issues who would have to take public transportation to the PennDOT center. The races that are unopposed have to do more with Gerrymandering than anything else. The party has ceded these races to the opposition. It don't have anything to do with a candidate getting ID. The boundaries of legislative districts are all over the place so that it keeps the politician safe from being unseated. This is true of both parties.

As someone who is currently playing Atticus in a stage adaptation of "Mockingbird" I have this to say: "Just because we were licked a hundred years before we began is no reason not to try to win." Best of luck in your write-in campaign!
