Community Corner

#GivingTuesdayBucks on December 3rd!

Historically, the shopping season opens with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. For the second year in a row, the giving season will have its very own opening day - #GivingTuesday, which will be held on Tuesday, December 3.

#GivingTuesday, an initiative that was introduced last year by the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, is a day to encourage charitable giving and remind each and every one of us that as we go about our holiday shopping, there are an enormous amount of individuals and organizations who rely on the support of their community members in order to thrive. This year, a group of professional fundraisers and nonprofit executives in Bucks County have joined together to introduce #GivingTuesdayBucks, a localized version of the #GivingTuesday movement.

“#GivingTuesdayBucks grew out of a desire to bring the national initiative to our community,” said Penn Foundation Director of Advancement and #GivingTuesdayBucks steering committee member, Jen King. “Knowing that Bucks County has such engaged and enthusiastic donors, we got excited about sharing this opportunity to highlight online giving as a way to make a difference right here in Bucks County. Going online to make a gift to your favorite charity on #GivingTuesday will be fast, easy, and we hope fun!”

Currently, #GivingBucksTuesday has 27 participating organizations, and will continue to accept new organizations through November 15, 2013.

Additionally, community members are encouraged to visit the #GivingTuesdayBucks website anytime between now and December 3, 2013 to learn more about organizations that help pave the way to a better Bucks County. Getting involved is as easy as making a donation, spreading the word about #GivingTuesdayBucks via social media, and urging others to do the same.
