Yard Sale Duds May Carry More Potential

Don't let a few dings and scratches prevent you from finding a truly useful yard sale purchase.

Last weekend, my wife finally managed to get out for her first yard sale hunt of the season. She went out with her mother, who lives in Feasterville, and patrolled the Levittown area, eschewing a quick Craigslist search and trying just plain old luck. Needless to say, she didn’t find much worth keeping.

The main exception is a child’s size Cinderella dress she bought for a dollar. The owner pre-warned her about a few stains on the front, but she risked it anyway. After a couple squirts of Shout and a run through the washing machine, it was good as new and ready for our Disney trip in November.

The point is, try to see the potential on items that look a little iffy. Sometimes minor cleaning or repairing can make a used item good as new. At the least, you’ll only be out a couple bucks.
