Black Friday Videogame Deals

The hottest games of the season have been released, and Black Friday can help you get them for cheap with deals better than last year.

This time of year finds pretty much every gamer with multiple gaming-related items on their holiday list: the hot new game, the console they didn’t buy yet, that sweet accessory that will make playing all the more enjoyable.

In turn, retailers at big box and gaming specialty stores turn the faucet on and offer a bunch of amazing deals so you can get someone that special gift or give yourself a little present. In many cases—especially on game purchases—offers are a few bucks better than last year’s deals!

As usual, ads for Black Friday sales have been available via both official and unofficial channels for a while. Here’s some of the better deals distilled into one place so you can more easily cross those gamers off your list:

Best Buy (scan of ad viewable here; stores open at midnight, with tickets passed out as early as 10:00PM Thanksgiving night)

  • A 250GB PS3 bundle including the Uncharted Dual Pack (a bundle of the first two games in the series), and the inFamous Collection will be $200 ($160 savings). This is also a great way to get a Blu-ray player if you don’t have one yet.
  • The Xbox 360 holiday bundle: 250GB system, Forza Motorsport 4, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be $200 (over 50% savings)
  • Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure characters will be just $3 (66% off!)
  • Skylanders Giants starter pack will be $50 ($25 savings)
  • Assassin’s Creed III, Madden 13, and Forza Horizon are only $35 ($25 off)
  • PS3 and 360 controllers will be just $35 (at least $15 off)

GameStop (summary of deals viewable here; some stores open at midnight, with all open by 5:00)

  • Their 250GB Xbox 360 bundle with Skyrim, Forza 4, and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 for $250 may be the gold standard of bundles this holiday season
  • All pre-owned games and accessories will be buy two, get one free
  • Turtle Beach P11 and X12 headsets will be just $40 ($20 savings)
  • Buyer Beware: most places are offering Assassin’s Creed III for better than the $50 that GameStop is.
  • Don’t Forget: In all the hustle and bustle you can still trade in old games to make these deals even sweeter, and they’re offering 25% extra credit if you trade back at least two games.

Target (scan of ad viewable here; stores open at 9:00 Thanksgiving night)

  • Xbox 360 Kinect bundle, including 4GB system, Kinect sensor, Kinect Adventures!, and Kinect Disneyland Adventures for $200 ($100 savings)
  • A 250GB PS3 bundle including the Uncharted Dual Pack (a bundle of the first two games in the series), and the inFamous Collection will be $200 (identical to the bundle offered at Best Buy)
  • They’re offering a $20 gift card with purchase of Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed III, or Forza Horizon (this is double the value card offered last year on hot games)
  • Madden 13, Borderlands 2, and Medal of Honor Warfighter are each $35 ($25 savings, $2 better than last year)
  • 1600 Microsoft Point cards are $10 (50% off)

Toys R Us (scan of ad viewable here; stores open 8:00PM Thanksgiving night)

  • They’re offering a ‘Buy 1, Get 1 for $1’ deal on many current hits, including Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs, Madden 13, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and Call of Duty MW3 (up to $59 savings on the discounted title; $4 better than their comparable deal last year)
  • A PS Vita bundle that includes a WiFi Vita and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified is $200 ($50 savings)
  • Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers are being offered at 40% savings
  • Buyer Beware: their buy one, get one on Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure figures sounds great, but it’s not as great as the 66% off offered by Best Buy which nets you three for the price of one

Walmart (scan of ad viewable here; stores open 8:00PM Thanksgiving night)

  • Dishonored, Just Dance 4, XCOM, Borderlands 2, and more are $25 each (up to $35 savings; $3 better than their deals on the hottest titles last year)
  • L.A. Noire, Dead Island, Gran Turismo 5 XL edition, Darksiders, and more are just $10 (a great deal on many older titles you may have missed in their heyday, and L.A. Noire is my personal pick for game of 2011)
  • Max Payne 3 is just $15 ($45 off)
  • Buyer Beware: Their Xbox 360 Kinect Dance bundle being offered for $230 is the same as the one offered by Target for just $200

Please make sure to check your local ad to ensure these prices match. It’s possible some of these deals and the hours they’re offered may change before Thanksgiving.
