Cascadian Farm organic peanut butter chip granola bars have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. The bars were sold at Giant.
According to Giant, the bars have been removed from the shelves. Customers who purchased the product, which had sell by dates of Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, should bring their purchase receipt to the store for a refund.
As of Wednesday at noon, Giant had received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of the granola bars, according to a news release.
Consumption of food contaminated with salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses.
Salmonella infections can be life threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants and the elderly. Signs of salmonellosis include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting.
