5 Things: Feb. 23

Tidbits of Information to help you get through the day.

1. An out-of-this-world experience: Centennial School District's Public Astronomy Night.  Tonight at the Henry W. Ray Special Experience Room at McDonald Elementary School located at 666 Reeves Lane in Warminster, the presentation of "The Search for Extrasolar Planets" will occur in two sessions within the  Planetarium; the first beginning at 6:30 p.m. until 7:20; the second beginning at 7:30 until 8:20 p.m. Admission is free, and reservations are not needed. But participants are advised to come at least 10 minute early to receive tickets, which can be obtained inside Door 2A of McDonald Elementary School. For more information, please call 215-441-6000 extension 1405. View the complete invitation here.

2. Southampton Fire Company No. 1 safety tip of the day: Did you know that smoke alarms in your home need to be replaced every ten years? Hmm, have yours been checked recently? (It also doesn't hurt to check these monthly for proper functionality). Check today, and place your mind at ease.

3. Billboard Number One: Today in 1977, The Eagles "New Kid in Town" topped the charts. Maybe today you could reach out to someone you have never spoken to, even talk to the new (or newer) student in class, or maybe touch base with a friend you have been meaning to get together with.

5. Upper Southampton Patch's green tip of the day: Humidifiers can be life savers during this flu season. But, it's best to clean them and replace their water supply daily, as these appliances can harbor bacteria. Visit earthshare.org for more green tips for the home.
