5 Things: March 1

Tidbits of information to get you thorough the day.

1. Centennial School District's Nutritional Services' tip of the day: Incorporating fruit in your diet today does not have to wait until lunch. Blend a fruit smoothie using low-fat milk, strawberries and bananas for breakfast. Start your day off on the right foot! Download some additional ways to include fruit and vegetables in all of your meals here:  http://www.centennialsd.org/19251063161414727/lib/19251063161414727/20_Ways_to_Enjoy_More_Fruits_Vegetablescolor_2_1[1].pdf

2. The Upper Southampton Township Board of Supervisors will be meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room in the lower level of the Southampton Free Library. Items of discussion include the "disposition of public records" and the Upper Southampton Sewer Authority. Check the township's website for a full agenda.

3. Billboard Number One Hit: Today in 1940, Glenn Miller's "In the mood" topped the charts. We may not all be able provide the actual title of the song upon hearing it, (and some youngsters may not know who Glenn Miller is!) but we all have heard this nicely-arranged tune. In fact, if you're a Golden Girls' viewer--not that I am--okay, it's one of my favorite shows--then you definitely know the sounds of Miller. There I go, unjustifiably/inaccurately aging myself. (Miller is also the name behind "Pennsylvania 6-5000," and I'll let some of the younger readers try to guess what those digits signify). For now, get in the mood for "In the mood" by watching the video. (Perhaps you can listen to it while you enjoy your breakfast smoothie).

4. Technology trade!   will buy your used camera equipment. Maybe you were looking to get a new camera this month after all. View NYCV's site here and indulge your inner shutterbug, which, coincidentally, is a term that was first recognized  the same year Miller's hit went to number one, according to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

5. Getting enough protein? Well, today is the perfect opportunity to replenish your body's source of protein, as March 1 is National Peanut Butter Day. (I feel like this could possibly be a wonderful supplement to your breakfast smoothie as well). If you happen to be low on this delicious spread, you can make a quick stop at Food for Nature's Promise peanut butter. (However, I must advise buying more than one, as running out of peanut butter is quite the tragedy).
