5 Things: March 10

Tidbits of information to help you get through the day.

1. Criminal history checks: Are you in the process interviewing for new jobs, possibly for positions in education? Of course, you need a background check completed. The Upper Southampton Police does not perform Pennsylvania criminal background checks for private citizens; however, the link to complete one yourself can be obtained here through the Pennsylvania State Police.  (Be sure to save the control number and form reporting your records on your desktop/flash drive/my documents, so you have it on file. Often, the official seal of the record does not successfully print; therefore, having the advantage of sending the document to a prospective employer through e-mail, so the seal is evident, works quite well).

2. Get Involved: The Centennial School District invites individuals to be a part of the Nutritional Services Team. Substitutes are needed to help the effort. Call 215-441-6000 ext. 3026. Training is included.

3. Billboard Number One: Today in 1988, Rick Astley's "Never gonna give you up" was number one on the charts. This song has  gained popularity within the past few years as becoming somewhat of a musical "syke!" found on YouTube videos--especially SNL clips. Watch the actual video here, and I promise, you will not get "Rick rolled." Well, I suppose technically you will be.

4. Today in 1969, James Earl Ray confessed to assassinating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was sent to prison for 99 years but died in 1988. Check here for more tidbits on what happened in history today.

5. Recycling tip: Batteries are often discarded once they are no longer usable. However, local businesses will accept your used cell phone and power tool batteries. Click here for the nearest drop-off locations  and here for more ways on how to make better use of your recyclables.
