3. Billboard number one: Today in 1968, Otis Redding's "(sittin' on) The dock of the bay," was number one on the charts. Redding, who actually composed "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, sang a cover of the The Rolling Stones' "(I can't get no) satisfaction;" additionally, the Stones covered a few of his tunes as well. Unfortunately, Redding died before the release of "the dock of the bay." Redding's music was highlighted in 1986 films including Top Gun and Pretty in Pink ("Try a little tenderness.")
