5 Things: March 14

Tidbits of information to help you get through the day.

1. Tips for test anxiety: First, I want to wish all Centennial School District students the best of luck on the PSSA's. This week will be over before you know it. Tip to make life easier: be sure to reward yourself at the end of the week! (And for all other readers, go easy on these brave test takers this week!)

2. You can never be too cautious. Southampton Fire Company No. 1 encourages all households in the township to prepare an emergency supplies kit. Disaster does not announce itself, and it is extremely beneficial to develop a plan and the best way to execute it. Click here for what to place in your kit and how to create an excellent method of handling a difficult situation.

3. Billboard number one: Today in 1968, Otis Redding's "(sittin' on) The dock of the bay," was number one on the charts. Redding, who actually composed "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, sang a cover of the The Rolling Stones' "(I can't get no) satisfaction;" additionally, the Stones covered a few of his tunes as well. Unfortunately, Redding died before the release of "the dock of the bay."  Redding's music was highlighted in 1986 films including Top Gun and Pretty in Pink ("Try a little tenderness.") View the video to listen to the song that was featured in the Tom Cruise blockbuster.

4. Weather report: Although spring is right around the corner, it's too soon to put that winter coat in your closet for the season. Today enjoy the maximum temperature of 50 degrees, but be prepared for the low of 32 degrees at night.

5. Centennial School District's Nutritional Services encourages township residents to incorporate more blueberries in their diets. (Try adding some today in your yogurt or cereal).
