5 Things: March 17

Tidbits of information to help you get through the day.

1. Safety and Festivities: Happy St. Patrick's Day! A lot of us will be going out to celebrate this wonderful Irish holiday sharing good food and...good drinks. Please be careful. Choose a completely sober designated driver and be sure to charge your phone completely before leaving your house. Also, having a well-balanced meal before festivities commence (and especially during) is a wise choice. Don't rely solely on the luck of the Irish to make smart decisions tonight!

2. The Centennial School District possesses an open records request application through its web site. (Transcripts, however, may not be requested through this program). Click here to request your records: http://www.centennialsd.org/csd/Forms/TakeSurvey.asp?PageNumber=1&SurveyID=612463LH36mMG&1925Nav=|&NodeID=384

3. Billboard Number One: Today in 1971, Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee" topped the charts. I thought this was an appropriate selection for today's column, as today is a great opportunity to remember our Irish cohorts! Joplin's version is not the original cover, but it remains the most famous.

5. Green tip for the host/hostess: Instead of purchasing drinks (specifically soda) in plastic containers, use aluminum, as it is easier to recycle. Click here for more tips on how to minimize the earth's carbon footprint even while entertaining guests.
