Bucks Beautiful Garden & Home Show

Missed the Philadelphia Flower Show? No worries. This weekend, there's one right in Bucks County.

Drivers traveling along the Route 611 bypass on the edge of Doylestown will have more than roadway to look at in April.

That’s when 30,000 bulbs of spring daffodils should be gloriously in bloom.

The bulbs were planted this past fall by workers from various nurseries and landscapers in the area. They were donated by Bob Byers of Byers’ Choice Ltd., Mike Feeney of Feeney’s Nurseries and Chuck Gale of Gale Nurseries.

It was part of the “Bulbs Along the Bypass” initiative under the auspices of Bucks Beautiful, a program sponsored by Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce.

You can learn more about that and future endeavors at the  happening through tomorrow at Delaware Valley College.

The massive bulb plantings are “just another way to beautify Bucks County,” said Debbie Hays, program administrator of the show.

This fall, the canal along the Delaware River is their next target. For the “Color for the Canal” program, the group hopes to plant 300,000 daffodil bulbs along the length of the entire canal as it runs through Bucks County.

Information about that project will be available at the show, which is celebrating its 20th year.

This year’s event will feature more than 70 exhibitors offering the latest products and services for the garden and home.

Visitors stopping by today and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., also can take advantage of seminars on home and garden-related topics.

Check Bucks Beautiful’s website for a full list for each day, but here’s what the seminars focus on: improving your home’s energy efficiency, tips for a healthy organic garden, how to care for your backyard pond and a preview of new and unusual plants.

Even kids will have plenty to do.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Philadelphia Zoo’s “Zoo on Wheels” brings live animals to the show. Representatives will also take questions and talk about “Attracting Wild Life to Your Garden" from 2 to 3. Lastly, join master gardeners from  between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the free “Gardening with Kids” workshop.

Show admission is $10; children ages 12 and under are free. There is an additional charge for each seminar, which is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

All proceeds from the show will benefit the Bucks Beautiful Bulbs for Bucks, garden grant and scholarship programs.

DelVal College is at 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown.
