The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning, that will go into effect Tuesday, March 27 at 3 a.m. and will remain in effect until 9 a.m.

According to the freeze warning, temperatures are expected to drop into the mid to upper 20s.

Due to an unusually warm winter and early spring, the growing season has already begun in the region, the warning states. Any vegetation susceptible to freezing temperatures over a period of three or more hours could be at risk.

According to Gardening Know How, you can protect your spring flowers and plants from freezing by covering them with old blankets, sheets or a burlap sack to help retain heat. When covering your plants, be sure to drape them loosely and secure with stakes, rocks, or bricks. While lighter covers can be placed directly over the plants, a heavier blanket might require some sort of support so that the plants aren't crushed under the weight.

Gardening Know How advises to remove any sort of cover when the sun comes out in the morning so that the plants do not suffocate.

You can also protect your spring foliage from freezing by watering them a day or two before the frost is expected since wet soil holds more heat than dry soil.
