Regional Roundup: Another Giant Supermarket Moves into Area

 Yesterday, Giant Food Stores, out of Carlisle, announced its schedule for converting 15 Philadelphia-area Genuardi’s stores to Giant stores. The Huntingdon Valley Genuardi’s store will close June 28 at 6 p.m. and will re-open as a Giant on July 8 at 8 a.m. Read more local stories at Lower Moreland Patch.

 The Council Rock School Board approved contracts for two of the district's employee unions, the Council Rock Education Association (CREA) and the Council Rock Education Support Professionals Association (CRESPA). CREA members will take a pay freeze for the 2012-2013 school year and the next year teachers will only receive a slight step increase. The CRESPA members will be getting a 0.5 percent increase next year and a 1 percent pay raise in the 2013-2014 school year. Read more local stories at Northampton Patch.

Three police vehicles are being evaluated for roadworthiness in the aftermath of Sunday's armed standoff in Doylestown Township. Doylestown Borough's police SUV was struck during the 10-hour standoff with Richard Klementovich at 25 Bittersweet Drive. Doylestown Township's police cruiser was riddled with about 50 shots, which blew out windows, punched into seats, and turned the doors into swiss cheese. Both departments still are waiting for final determination from their insurance companies, but it doesn't look like either car will be back on the road. Read more local stories at Doylestown Patch.

The co-owner of a new indoor racing facility in Horsham gave Patch an inside look at the evolution of the 106,000-square-foot former Walmart building, which when complete, will serve as the nexus for green-and-black battery-powered race cars able to travel up to 50 miles per hour. Read more local stories on Hatboro-Horsham Patch.

The celebration will feature a ribbon-cutting and guitar-smashing ceremony, live music, free food and soft drinks and one-day-only sign up specials. Workshops and free trial mini-lessons will be available throughout the day and staff from Guitar Center will be on hand to provide free guitar diagnostics, according to organizers. The spotlight will be on Levittown this week as it celebrates its 60th anniversary at Bolton Mansion on Saturday and Sunday. The event runs Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at 85 Holly Drive in Levittown. The event includes food, family fun, live music and historic Levittown exhibits.
