NWS: Tornado Watch In Effect Tuesday

National Weather Service issues Tornado watch for Pennsylvania through 7 p.m.

 

During the predicted severe thunderstorm Tuesday conditions are favorable for potential tornadoes throughout Pennsylvania, the National Weather Service said.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, issued a tornado watch for all counties in the commonwealth until 7 p.m. Tuesday

"This watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes. Hail and strong winds are also possible. Persons in the watch area should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings," according to an advisory.

In addition to the tornado watch, the NWS also issued a wind advisory from noon to midnight Tuesday. Residents throughout the Delaware Valley should secure light-weight outdoor furniture and garbage cans.

"The strong wind may bring down tree limbs and utility lines... The wind may also make driving difficult, especially on bridges and on elevated roadways," the advisory said.

On Tuesday evening, the NWS predicted a 90 percent chance of rain for the Philadelphia area, with winds gust potentially as high as 37 mph. Rainfall could amount to between 1 and 2 inches.
