Weekend Rain Could Bring More Flooding

Another system full of rain is headed our way.

It seems like we all just got things cleaned up from Hurricane Irene, but we could be in for some more heavy rain and flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, a rain-making systems will be rolling through our area this weekend. Rain totals will depend on just how much comes down during thunderstorms, but 2 to 4 inches are possible.

One forecast on Weather.com calls for 1 to 3 inches in our area, but "locally heavier amounts." Those "heavier amounts" are the types of events that lead to flash flooding.

Most of the Philadelphia area is under a flood watch and that could quickly escalate to flood warnings once the storm's track becomes more clear.

According to the NOAA forecast, showers are possible through Thursday evening and rain should be steady through Friday with the aforementioned heavier downpours possible, as are some thunderstorms. Showers are then likely through Saturday and the weather.com forecast shows a chance of precipitation through next Thursday.

Forecasts for the Neshaminy Creek, Delaware River and other waterways do not show any of them reaching flood stage. However, steady rain mixed with heavy downpours can lead to low-lying areas, including roadways, becoming flooded.
