There are still “plenty” of spots available for the 2013 Lions Gift of Sight Golf Outing, which is slated for Oct. 7 at the Bucks Club in Jamison, according to Horsham Lions Club Treasurer Andy Weiss.

The Horsham Lions have been holding golf outings for at least 20 years, according to Weiss. But, about five years ago, the Horsham club joined forces with the Hatboro Lions to put on a joint golf outing.

“It’s been dropping from year to year,” Weiss said of money raised and dwindling participation. “It’s a problem because everyone and their brother has golf outings these days.”

To help fill the roster, area Lions have expanded this year to include the Willow Grove Lions Club, as well as the Southampton-Warminster Area Lions Club. The combined efforts of Hatboro and Horsham Lions clubs generated about $3,000 each year, split between the groups, according to Weiss.

“With the addition of more clubs this year, and more sponsors, we hope to do even better this year,” he said.

Funds raised are used primarily to help sight-impaired individuals in the communities where the clubs are located “as the need comes up,” Weiss said.
