GoFundMe Campaign Seeks Comforts of Home for Disabled Northampton Teen

Lauren Shevchek, 19, was paralyzed following a diving accident this summer. Friends are rallying to raise funds to cover the cost of building an accessible addition on to her family's Northampton Township home.

Northampton resident Lauren Shevchek suffered a catastrophic diving accident this summer that left her a quadriplegic.

Lauren, a graduate of Council Rock High School South, had just completed her freshman year of college at Penn State’s Main campus where she was a water polo player. According to reports she was injured during a shallow dive, something she had done many times before, in June.

Friends say that despite all she has been through Lauren’s optimistic attitude and warm personality remain unchanged.

However, according Kathy Schieber, mother of one of Lauren's close friends and the creator of the Lauren’s Construction Fund GoFundMe campaign, Lauren needs to have an expensive addition built onto her parent’s home in order to have some ease of living restored.

“In the homes current state she cannot even get a shower,” wrote Schieber.

“I watch as this family is doing the best they can with what they have, but I am asking everyone that can help out in establishing a construction fund,” she said.
