Philadelphia Metro Area Least Peaceful in US

The Philadelphia Metro Area has been ranked 50th out of 61 metro areas around the US in peacefulness, even though the Northeast is the most peaceful region of the US.

The Institute for Economics and Peace released the second annual United States Peace Index (USPI), which looks at peacefulness in the U.S. by state and at the city level.

The analysis of peace is based on homicide, violent crime, policing, incarceration rates and the availability of small arms data, according to the release from IEP.

According to the USPI, the Northeast is the most peaceful region, with the lowest homicide, violent rime, and incarceration rates in the country.

The South, on the other hand, is the least peaceful region.

Pennsylvania ranks 24th out of 50 states. According to the USPI, PA has a higher than the national average homicide rate, but is far below the national average of police employees.

However, the Philadelphia Metro Area ranks 50th out of 61 metro areas throughout the US.

The least peaceful metro areas include Baltimore, MD; Miami, FL; Las Vegas, NV; and rounding out the bottom of the list are New Orleans, LA and Detroit, MI.
