CENTENNIAL SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTOR IS PSBA ADVOCACY INSTITUTE DELEGATE

Mark B. Miller, Vice President of the Centennial School District Board of Education, was appointed by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) to serve on the Federal Relations Network (FRN).  The FRN is the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) grassroots lobbying network consisting of school board members from across the nation.  Miller, as a FRN member, was invited to participate in the NSB Advocacy Institute in Washington D.C, which was held Feb.2-4, 2014.

Conference participants were briefed by members of Congress and NSBA staff on federal issues that merit school board advocacy. A full conference day was reserved for meetings between delegates and their Congressional representatives to discuss federal issues and their impact on the legislator’s constituency. Miller was part of a delegation that met with Senator Robert Casey, an advocate for early childhood education. In a more select meeting with Senator Pat Toomey, Miller and three other delegates were updated on critical legislation the Senator had introduced to protect children from predators. They also discussed other important issues like funding for special education.

“We are fortunate that most members of Congress from Pennsylvania share a strong commitment to public education,” Miller said about his experience.
