Attempted Child Luring on Dennis Road

Police said a man in a dark-colored pickup truck asked an 11-year-old girl for help finding his dog Friday evening.

Police said a man in a dark-colored, full-sized pickup truck approached an 11-year-old girl on Dennis Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Friday evening.

"The girl had been with her friends and started to walk home by herself," said Det. James Schirmer of the Upper Southampton Police Department.

"While she was walking alone on Dennis Road near Paddock Road, a man pulled up and asked for help finding his dog," he said.

Schirmer said a report was made to police, and while they followed up on a few leads on vehicles in the area that matched the description, nothing has panned out.

"The incident has been added to our 'awareness list' and officers are on the lookout," he said.

The incident was also reported to the Centennial School District. The district sent the following alert via email to parents in the district late Monday morning:

On Friday, April 13, 2012,  an 11 year old female child walking in the area of Dennis Road in Upper Southampton Township was approached by a white male driving a full size dark colored pick-up truck.  The male spoke to the child through the open passenger’s side window.  The male asked the child if he would help him find his dog.  The child ran to a friend’s house and the incident ended.
