County Commissioners Recognize Officers For Response to Critical Incident

Bucks County Commissioners recognized several officers, including Upper Southampton Police Officer Michael Kaminski, for their life-saving response to Ivyland Police Chief Nicholas Rosato's heart attack in early April.

When April 15, Lower Southampton officer Brian Walter came to his aid.

The five-year veteran of Lower Southampton began performing CPR on Rosato with the help of Northampton Police Officer Tim Friel and Sergeant Steve LeCompte and Upper Southampton Officer Mike Kaminski. These officers performed CPR and jolted Rosato with an AED.

It was their life-saving response in this incident that the Bucks County Commissioners recognized them for Wednesday morning.

"It's an honor...a very good feeling," said Walter, who is also battalion chief at the . Walter said 20 minutes into the call, he watched Rosato fall down.

"I didn't really think, I just reacted," he said of performing CPR and getting the AED started. According to Lower Southampton Police Chief William Wiegman, Walter was trained to do this.

"It's outstanding. I'm very proud of him," Wiegman said of Walter's response in Upper Southampton.

"It's nice to have someone outside of the township recognize one of our guys," said Lieutenant John Krimmel.

In addition to being recognized by the Bucks County Commissioners, Walter, LeCompte,  Friel and Kaminski were also recognized by the mayor of Ivyland, Charlie Ritter.

"We're indebted to them," Ritter said and then read a letter written by Rosato, who was at the event and appeared well. 

"They responded to save my life without hesitation," Ritter read. Rosato also wrote that it was the officers' training and professionalism are why he is still here today.

Rosato wrote that he was in the right place and right time to go into cardiac arrest.

"We were just doing our job," LeCompte said.
