Elderly Driver Who Smashed Parked Car Into House Dies

Stanley Stevens, 94, passed away Friday morning following injuries sustained in a car accident Wednesday afternoon.

The 94-year-old man who  afternoon, has died.

Police said Stanley Stevens passed away Friday Morning morning at Abington Memorial Hospital.

According to police, Stevens was admitted to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday evening after being extracted from the car by the Upper Southampton Fire Department.  He suffered a broken right hip and tibia, as well as bilateral fractures of the ribs and bruised lungs.

Police said Stanley was found trapped under the dashboard of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

On April 12, 2011, Stanley Stevens, 94 years old, was operating a 1996, Chevrolet, Caprice on Harding Road when he went off the roadway at the intersection of Clair Rd, across the lawn at 1016 Harding Rd and traveled about 200 feet before striking the passenger side of a 2007, Saturn parked unoccupied in the driveway of 980 Willopenn Drive.  

The impact forced the Saturn into the residence causing moderate damage to the structure.  No one was injured inside of the residence.

The Caprice then contacted the Saturn again in the rear fender after it rotated counter clockwise from striking the residence.  The Saturn came to rest on the front lawn of 980 Willopenn Drive about 40’ from its original parking location. The Caprice then continued forward with the front of the vehicle crashing into a tree adjacent to the driveway at 980 Willopenn Drive.  

Stanley was found to be operating an unregistered vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.  On April 13, 2012, he passed away as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident.
