Fire Damages Home on Mill Creek Road

The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

A working smoke detector and fast work by fire crews are most likely the two reasons a fire at home in the 1100 block of Mill Creek Road did not cause more damage.

The fire began and was contained to a second-floor bedroom, Southampton Fire Company Assistant Chief Tom Brown said Saturday evening at the scene.

The residents, who were unharmed, were asked not to stay in the home tonight due to water and smoke damage, authorities said.

The homeowners were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector installed in the home and fire crews were dispatched shortly before 9:30 p.m., Mark Showmaker, the township's fire marshal, said.

When firefighters first arrived, the home was filled with smoke and the firefighters quickly went to work extinguishing the blaze, Brown said.

Several pieces of charred items, including a burnt wooden dresser, were seen being taken from the home after the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Showmaker added.

Fire crews from Lower Southampton, Northampton and Warminster assisted the Upper Southampton firefighters.
