Fire Devastates Churchville Inn

An early morning blaze ripped through the second floor of the popular Southampton restaurant.

A fire ripped through the top floor of the historic at the intersection of Bristol Road and Bustleton Pike just after 7 a.m. this morning.

Firefighters from Upper Southampton, Northampton, Lower Southampton, Feasterville, Warminster and Trevose worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control.

"The conditions were so intense that the firefighting efforts were strictly from the outside of the building,” said Upper Southampton Fire Marshal Mark Showmaker.

According to officials,  the fire was mostly contained to the second floor of the building, with residual damage to the remaining structure.

There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time. Showmaker said they are focusing their investigation on the attic space above the apartments.

The structure has been a Southampton landmark since the 1800's. In 1986, the Wallace family renovated the building and opened the Churchville Inn restaurant.
