Former Union Treasurer Sentenced on Theft Conviction

Eric (Rick) Metz was recently sentenced in Bucks County Court for stealing more than $80,000 from the Southampton-based Brotherhood of Master Plumbers.

The former treasurer of the Brotherhood of Master Plumbers of Philadelphia has been sentenced for embezzling funds. 

Eric (Rick) Metz, 52, of Bensalem, was sentenced in Bucks County Court last month to 1 to 18 months, 30 days to be served on house arrest, for stealing more than $80,000 from the Southampton-based trade organization where he served as treasurer from Jan. 2007 until May 2011.  

Police said that in addition to serving time, Metz will have to repay a full restitution of $83,000 as well as court costs; he will also be required to write a letter of apology to the Brotherhood.

According to a press release issued by the police department, Detective Craig Rudisill investigated this incident which involved financial auditing of the Brotherhood’s treasury.

Metz was arrested June 20, 2011 on charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and access device fraud. He was released at that time by District Justice William Benz on $75,000 unsecured bail.
