Man Dies Following Fire in Somerton

A 70-year-old man suffered cardiac arrest following a fire in his Somerton home.

A man died following a house fire in the nearby Somerton section of Philadelphia Monday morning.

Philly Fire News reports when firefighters arrived on the 300 block of Buxmont Street around 8:00 a.m, there was smoke billowing from single family dwelling. 

The service reported that once inside, firefighters found a 70-year-old man in cardiac arrest. He was taken from the burning home to the hospital, where he died.

The fire was brought under control just before 8:30 a.m.

6abc.com reports that the fire department has not released the man's name, but said he is the brother of a retired Philadelphia Police officer.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
