‘No Parking’ Signs to be Posted on Second Street Pike

Officials say parking between the entrance to Tamanend Park and the driveway to Klinger Middle School creates too many hazards.

Softball fans will have to find a new place to park in the township if they don't want to get a ticket.

A no parking zone on Second Street Pike, just outside Klinger Middle School, will soon be legally enforced.

Upper Southampton Parks and Recreation Director Paul Radzevich said attendees of the Southampton Girls Club softball games often park on the 45 mph state road.

“It’s just too dangerous of a situation,” he said. “Until the signs go up, there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Radzevich first went to leaders of the Girls Club to solve the problem. But even after the club discouraged parking on the side of the road, the problem still persisted.

“I personally instructed coaches of teams to tell parents not to park there, and we send e-mails out to the entire membership,” Girls Club President Tim Koch said. “But some people will do what they want to do.”

Koch said the message isn’t spread to all that need to know. He hopes the signs will fix the problem.

“In some of our leagues we play inter-township games,” he said. “In those cases those parents maybe haven’t heard.”

Koch is in favor of the signs. He said he has noticed the parking on Second Street Pike for the past six years he has been involved with the Girls Club.

“It is a safety concern for the township and obviously it’s a safety concern for us,” he said.

Southampton Township Public Works said the signs should be in place in one month, at the latest.
