Snapped Utility Pole Closes Second Street Pike to Traffic

A old utility pole broke, forcing police to shut down Second Street Pike for a period of time Wednesday evening.

Second Street Pike had to be closed due to a utility pole that broke and caused wires to fall onto the roadway .

The fallen wires crossed Second Street Pike near Aldo's Pizza Cafe and Las Margaritas around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Police said the snapped pole suffered a rotted base and this is thought to be the cause of the break.

A PECO employee was on scene and managed to bring the pole down and moved it off the road so Second Street Pike could be reopened to traffic. Later in the night another crew would come out to replace the pole.

Only one business was believed to have lost power and it was closed for the evening, according to the PECO employee.
