Southampton Man Arrested Following Robbery of Local Business

A Southampton man was arrested Monday after police say he robbed a local dry cleaning shop earlier that same morning.

Police said Benjamin Cohen, 25, of the 600 block of Knowles Avenue, entered Frankford Cleaners in the Redwood Shopping Center around 8:30 a.m, pointed a large socket wrench at the owner and demanded the money from inside the cash registers.

According to court documents, Cohen walked around the counter, took all of the paper currency, as well as some quarters, and stuffed them into his pockets, before leaving the store and driving away in a silver SUV.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Lower Southampton Police spotted a car fitting the description given by the store owner on Street Road a short time later. The document states that Upper Southampton Police Detective Craig Rudisill transported the store owner and a witness to a location near the traffic stop, where the pair identified Cohen as the man who had robbed the store earlier that morning.

Cohen was arrested and charged with robbery, theft, simple assault, terroristic threats and related offenses. 

Police said when they searched the car Cohen was driving they found: a black jacket over a dark gray hoodie in the rear seat with loose cash protruding form the pockets, a large silver socket wrench, 70's style sunglasses and a box of latex gloves.

Cohen was arraigned in front of Judge William Benz Monday afternoon. He was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000/10 percent bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 15 at 1:30 p.m. in Judge Benz's Richboro courtroom.
