Excessive Heat Warning in Effect Through Wednesday

The National Weather Service warns that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity could create a potential health threat.

While summer has not officially begun just yet, summer-like temperatures have already arrived across the region.

Tuesday afternoon's high temperature prompted the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, NJ to issue an excessive heat warning, lasting until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The NWS  issued the weather advisory as temperature climbed above 90 degrees for the second day in a row. The weather service had  on Monday.

The advisory warns that "hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely." The service said the worst threat is to children, pets and the elderly, but that everyone should take precautions.

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check up on relatives and neighbors.

The heat index on Wednesday is once again expected to hover in the 90s, and officials are advising area residents to limit their afternoon activities. 

Here's a look at the extended forecast for Southampton:

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 69. Southeast wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm. 

Wednesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. West wind between 5 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Wednesday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 63. West wind between 6 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 86. Breezy, with a northwest wind between 11 and 20 mph. 

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 54. Northwest wind between 5 and 11 mph. 

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.
