Mercury to Climb as Week Progresses

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

If you have the opportunity, make sure to take full advantage of the gorgeous weather outside either today or tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to climb high into the 90s later this week, and the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Wednesday and Thursday.

The Mount Holly, NJ based weather service said temperatures will to swell into the mid-90s on Wednesday, but with the added heat index values it will feel more like 100 to 105 degrees well into Thursday.

NWS warns that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity can create a potentially dangerous situation. They advise staying out of the sun in an air-conditioned room and checking up on friends and neighbors.

If you must work or spend time outside, NWS recommends taking extra precautions such as: rescheduling strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours, wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water.

To reduce heat risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned enviornments.

According the the NWS, anyone who is overcome by heat should be immediately moved to a cool and shaded location; heat stroke should be treated as a medical emergency.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. West wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm. 

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. West wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
