Supervisors Amend Firearms Ordinance

The board also voted to waive the stormwater management requirement for structures less than 1000-square-feet built in the Neshaminy Creek Watershed.

An updated ordinance that bans firearms, air soft guns, bow and arrows, hatchets, axes and saws from township parks was approved by Board of Supervisors Tuesday evening.

“The old ordinance was cleaned up to be in accordance with the law,” Township Solicitor Donald Williams said at the meeting.

He explained if you have a license to carry a firearm, you are allowed, but you can’t use it for recreational purposes at the parks.

Mill Creek Road resident Bob Shaffer asked why the new ordinance states you carry a gun in the park by not a air gun or hatchet.

“Because who can carry a gun is regulated by the state; air guns, bow and arrows, hatchets and saws are not, Williams explained.

The ordinance, which was approved 3-0, goes into a effect on Monday.

The board also unanimously approved an ordinance that states any structure less than 1,000-square-feet built in the Neshaminy Creek Watershed would not be required to have a stormwater management system as currently mandated.

“This [ordinance] is to make it a little easier for our homeowners,” Township Manager Joesph Golden said.

Board members Marguerite Genesio and Stephen Wallin were not present at the meeting.
