Pre-Halloween Storm Impacts Upper Southampton

A rare October snow event caused problems over the weekend in Upper Southampton.

Residents of Upper Southampton spent Saturday night and Sunday morning clearing their driveways after a rare .

Unofficial backyard snow total readings indicated the storm dropped between two and three inches of frozen precipitation over Southampton. The unseasonable storm also brought strong winds to the area.

Snow started falling Saturday morning and by late afternoon motorists were spotted spinning their tires up and down Street Road. The traffic situation wasn't helped by the fact that several traffic lights along Street Road were disabled by power outages.

The power outages and snowy weather forced the library and community center to close early on Saturday.

Throughout the weekend township and state plow crews were spotted clearing roads around town.

By Sunday morning, the snow had cleared and most of the power had been restored to the town.

Above-freezing temperatures began to melt some of the snow Sunday and the forecast show a similar scenario for today.

Forecast for 18966:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Calm wind becoming south between 4 and 7 mph.

Tonight: A slight chance of rain after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. East wind between 3 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
