Supervisors Approve Parking Restrictions on Grove, Moyer, Second Street Pike

Three-way stop is also possible at Moyer, Grove intersection.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously adopted an ordinance that bans parking on sections of Grove Avenue, Moyer Road and Second Street Pike.

Specifically, effective Monday, parking will be prohibited on both sides of Grove, from Moyer to its end at the Community Center parking lot; the northern side of Moyer Road between Grove and Willow Street; and both sides of Second Street Pike from Maple Avenue to the driveway of the Klinger Middle School.

Before Tuesday's meeting, Township Manager Joe Golden explained that the Parks and Recreation Board i.  It was later decided, he said, to prohibit parking on both sides to prevent more parking on the opposite side of the street and creating an even more dangerous situation.

Golden said it was decided to ban parking on one side of Moyer and both sides of Grove for the benefit of the residents living near the Community Center.

While one Grove Avenue resident attending Tuesday's board meeting suggested a ban on only one side of her street, two others approved of the changes.

One man said he'd like the township to take things a step further and also ban parking on the south side of Moyer. Golden said that can be looked into.

Gretchen Van Horn said she supports the change on Grove but fears the total parking ban will mean motorists will drive even faster than they do now. During nearby sporting events, she said, the traffic and speed are already “quite remarkable.”

Van Horn asked if a three-way stop sign or speed bumps could be installed. In response, Supervisor and former Police Chief Walter Stevens introduced a motion to have Golden talk to Police Chief Ron MacPherson to investigate a possible three-way stop at Grove and Moyer.
