Davis Demolition Underway

The main classroom wing of the Former Davis Elementary School is now just a memory, as workers begin the process of clearing the site for the upcoming construction.

The demolition of Centennial's Davis Elementary School began on Thursday.

Workers were busy digging into the walls of the former elementary school on Maple Avenue and placing the debris in piles, to be sorted and taken off site.

Former Centennial Graduate Roger Creamer was one of a handful of workers at the site, participating in the process.

Creamer said he grew up not too far from Davis but he is not sad to see the school go.

"I'm just happy to have some work in this economy," he said. "Besides,  it's progress."

Another worker at the site noted how all of the windows were missing from the building before the demolition process began. He said the windows were removed first because they were cased in asbestos, and needed to be removed following special procedures before the demolition process could begin.

"People should be happy they are getting a new school here," he said. "It will be a much safer and healthier environment for the children."

Bricks from the old building will be available in a pile outside of the gate on Monday. Residents are encouraged to take a piece of Davis home with them, although the district asks that people kindly take only one brick per family.

Davis Elementary School is being demolished as part of Centennial School District's plan to consolidate it's six former elementary schools into just three buildings.

The site is being cleared to make way for the construction of a new Region 1 Elementary School.
